This mini-study seeks to provide a history of some of the traditions and elements surrounding the Christmas season, as well as lead your family through the Advent season with intentional reading and meditation on the reason for this holiday.

Enjoy three weeks of study, incorporating Scripture, a sweet family read-aloud, history, art, poetry, hymn, composer, multi-cultural studies, and many extended learning activities.

Each week of study will focus on learning the history of a Christmas tradition, unique traditions from around the world, an aspect of nature during the winter season, and a seasonal poem, hymn, and composer.

  • Learn the history of the advent calendar, why we bake and share Christmas cookies, and how the Christmas tree became popular
  • Enjoy the words of Christmas Bells by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and the story of one of the most well-loved hymns - Silent Night
  • Learn about unique Christmas traditions in Iceland, Sweden, and the Czech Republic
  • Enjoy Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and his The Nutcracker, while also learning about ballet, nutcrackers, and stage anatomy
  • Continue seasonal activities with nature study: ice and snow, the Winter Solstice, and evergreens
