America the Beautiful is a gentle and patriotic guide through the events that make America’s story full of hope. There is no doubt America is not without blemish or fault, but it is still a story of triumph, and it should be this story of noble freedom, patriot dreams, and home of heroes that we first instill in our youngest learners. There will be time enough to weigh her faults and criticize her approach, let them first see true heroism, upright nobility, and grow their love of country.

Through song and verse they will learn the great spirit of America. Through the stories of her heroes they will encounter our national character. Through discussion they will be led to think of implications and dreams. Through activities they will make connections with the people and places of our history.

Three terms take the student from Pre-Europeans to the Apollo 11 moon landing. Each term studies two songs, one poem, one holiday, one legend, and many heroic figures (focusing as much as possible on their childhood and character).

Each lesson includes song and poem, assigned reading and discussion prompts, activity and mapwork, and a term-long read aloud. An additional book list for each topic is included, if you want to explore the event/person further.

Included in the download is the Visual History and Activity Packet and narration notebook.
