Volume I Overture is a 30 week study of history with the use of engaging living books, biographies, geography mapping, timeline notebooking, and fun extension activities. Guided lessons and a walk through the "players" of history (a unique way to look at history only from Moravia Press) are included, with additional learning assignments. A comprehensive booklist is included, as well as a glossary of terms.

Scheduled as three terms, each consisting of 10 weeks of lessons, with reading assignments and extension activities for forms 1-3 (grades 1-8):

Term 1 The Ancients (Creation–550 B.C. [circa]) ... covering Creation, Biblical accounts, Sumeria, Mesopotamia, Egypt, Assyria, and Babylon

Term 2 The Rise of Greece (1800–200 B.C. [circa])... including Persia, ancient civilizations in the Americas, India, and China

Term 3 The Power of Rome (700 B.C.–A.D. 476)... including Rome as the backdrop of the gospel, early Christianity, barbarian attacks, and fall of the western empire

Frequently, history is presented in a way that seems separate from events recorded in the Bible. For this reason, it can feel as though those events do not connect, leading to many not understanding the contemporary nature of ancient history (Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, Rome, etc.) with Biblical history; however, one of the magnificent aspects of God’s Word is how it corroborates ancient accounts.

In this volume of The Symphony of History, the whole of ancient history is presented in a way that helps your student see the parallels between what is often taught as separate histories: ancient and Biblical.

Included in the download is the Visual History and Activity Packet for Overture that compliments each week of study with art, artifacts, etc. and additional activities and maps. The Timeline is also included as a separate file, though also present in the back of the curriculum guide (included separately for ease of printing).
