John Singer Sargent... portrait painter

Spend the term studying the art and style of one of the most iconic portrait painters. Born in Italy to American parents, Sargent spent his childhood homeschooled and studying the art of the great masters of Europe. He studied under Carolus Duran and befriended some of the greatest artists of his time, such as James McNeill Whistler and Claude Monet!

  • Learn about portrait painting
  • Enjoy carefully chosen picture studies and learn about alla prima

This guide is designed to be used over one term (12 weeks) with one lesson occurring every week for approximately 20 minutes. I do encourage you to display some of the picture study options for more exposure to the art of John Singer Sargent.
