A comprehensive booklist is included, as well as a glossary of terms.
Scheduled as three terms, each consisting of 10 weeks of lessons, with reading assignments and extension activities for forms 1-3 (grades 1-8):
Term 1 The Dark Age (500-800 [circa]) ... covering Celts and Britons, Anglo-Saxons, the rise of the Byzantine Empire, the founding of Islam, the arrival of the Vikings
Term 2 The Age of Chivalry (800- 1300 [circa])... looking at feudalism, knighthood, the rise of English kings, the Crusades, the Silk Road, and Scottish independence
Term 3 The Age of Ambition (1300-1500 [circa])… the fall of Constantinople, the Hundred Years’ War, the Wars of the Roses, early Age of Discovery, and the first light of the Renaissance
History is not a string of accidents, but a symphony under sovereign direction.
Though the Middle Ages are often dismissed as dark or directionless, the light of God’s truth was never extinguished. It flickered in monasteries, was etched into stone and song, and carried in the hearts of men and women shaped by both sorrow and hope.
Even in the shadows, His purposes moved forward — quietly, steadily — preparing the world for renewal.
Nocturne invites students to trace that thread of light across centuries, to see God’s providence in both the beauty and the brokenness, and to remember that history is, always, His story.
Included in the download is the Visual History and Activity Packet for Nocturne that compliments each week of study with art, artifacts, etc. and additional activities and maps. The Timeline is also included as a separate file, though also present in the back of the curriculum guide (included separately for ease of printing).
