James Tissot... social commentator and almost photographic details

Spend the term studying the art and style of one of the most prolific painters. Born in France, Tissot made a name for himself in England where he captured the Victorian elite and their class expectations. He was influential in the Impressionist movement and later spent his life capturing the landscape of Biblical events, painting over 350 watercolors of Old Testament events and scenes from the life of Christ

  • Learn about religious symbolism in art and social commentary art
  • Understand embodied perspective and immersive perspective as it relates to artistic depiction
